When Arizona Wildcats linebacker Jake Fischer went down with an injury late against the Washington Huskies on Saturday, the ugly loss seemed to go from bad to worse. Fischer was helped off the field without putting weight on his leg, which didn't seem like a good sign.
But apparently his injury diagnosed as an ankle sprain won't cost him any games thanks to this week's bye. According to the Tucson Citizen's Anthony Gimino, Fischer will be held out of practice this week but should be ready to play for the matchup against the USC Trojans next Thursday.
Arizona's leader at middle linebacker has the fourth-most tackles on the team this year. His 20 are behind leader Scooby Wright and safeties Jared Tevis and Tra'Mayne Bondurant; he had eight against UW. Fischer also has an interception returned 49 yards for a touchdown.
Hank Hobson has been Fischer's backup so far this year and hasn't seen the field very much -- it's been difficult for Rich Rodriguez to pull Fischer.
