Arizona football recruiting: QB Brandon Dawkins commits to Wildcats

Rich Rodriguez got a huge commitment from a dual-threat quarterback.

Quarterback Brandon Dawkins out of Oaks Christian High School in Westlake Village, Calif., committed to the Arizona Wildcats on Thursday, according to Brandon Huffman of Scout.com. The 2014 prospect is a four-star by ESPN's standards and a three-star according to Scout.

Scout has him ranked as the 23rd-best quarterback in his class. Dawkins also had offers from North Carolina State, Notre Dame and Utah.

At 6-foot-4, 199 pounds, Dawkins has size but is labeled as a dual-threat player. While he has a strong arm, nice delivery and the athleticism to shine at the collegiate level, it's his discipline that needs development.

Here's ESPN Insider's scouting report:

Dawkins is a big and good looking prospect who flashes some dynamic capabilities. A man among boys against this level of competition. Could develop into a quality prospect for most schools if he continues to refine and discipline himself. Accuracy on a consistent basis is critical for him. Must be careful not to go into street-ball mode, but Dawkins is a good athlete and prospect.

Of course, this year's quarterback competition has a great deal feeling out left in its own right, but should it fail miserably, a player like Dawkins becomes important as an immediate-impact sort of player.
