This week's Arizona Wildcats injury report is quite the party heading into Saturday afternoon's showdown against the Washington Huskies.
Here's a look at where all the names fit in:
PROBABLE: Jarvis McCall (shoulder)
QUESTIONABLE: Cam Denson (hip), Trevor Ermisch (arm), Terris Jones-Grigsby (ankle), William Parks (concussion), Parker Zellers (ankle)
DOUBTFUL: None
OUT: Chase Gorham (abdominal strain), DeAndre' Miller (shoulder), Nate Phillips (foot, season ending), Adonis Smith (concussion)
Alright, let's take this position-by-position.
Cornerback: We saw Devin Holiday for the first time this season against Colorado, and expect to see a lot more of him this week with both McCall and Denson in the injury report. Denson has started the last two games, but after being injured during the Colorado game, Holiday came in, and got an interception. Apparently Holiday has been dealing with injuries so far this season as well, which is why we hadn't seen him in a game. But at least Jonathan McKnight is healthy and playing well.
Running back: Nick Wilson, Nick Wilson, and more Nick Wilson this week. The freshman was able to put up 153 yards last week, the most yards he has had since suffering his ankle injury against Oregon. Jones-Grigsby has shown a lot of promise in a couple games this year, but he keeps getting injured, which is unfortunate. Also, Adonis Smith being out essentially guarantees that Jared Baker will be the backup option should Nick Wilson need a rest or something happens there.
Wide receiver: Nate Phillips is officially done for the year after suffering a broken foot in the first quarter of the Colorado game. Phillips has not been nearly as productive as last season, but that's not his fault at all. But expect Samajie Grant to step up big-time the next few weeks with Phillips out and DaVonte' Neal struggling. Another thing to note is that Cayleb Jones was playing with padding on his arm and hand last week. He eventually took it off during the game, but he is definitely dealing with something as well.
Safety: More Tra'Mayne Bondurant? Tra'Maybe, but he was limited last week during the game because of an injury, so even though he's not officially listed, there's no real guarantee he'll be full-go. With Will Parks being limited, there could be some serious playing time for guys like Jamar Allah and Anthony Lopez. Could also see Tellas Jones and Blake Brady out there.
Nose tackle: Parker Zellers has been okay at nose tackle, and another guy that's not officially listed, Jeff Worthy, has been dealing with injuries all year as well, so we could see some interesting wrinkles to generate some pass rush from Jeff Casteel. I mean, the Washington State game, the official starter was Reggie Gilbert, and Derrick Turituri starting at defensive end. So maybe something like that?
Long snapper: Didn't really notice Chase Gorham's absence during the Colorado game, with Arizona punting five times and kicking a field goal. That's a good thing. Jose Romero has done a good job filling in so far, and he'll be out there again this weekend.
It seems like this is the most banged-up Arizona has been in a long time, but that just means it's time for more guys to step up and contribute, and hopefully prove to the coaching staff that there is more depth on this team than what they think there is.
