Arizona Wildcats sophomore linebacker Scooby Wright III won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy Monday night in Charlotte, which is awarded to the nation's top defensive player. He is the second Arizona player to win the award. Rob Waldrop was the inaugural Nagurski winner in 1993.
Wright was the only player in the FBS to be in the top-five in tackles, tackles for loss, and sacks. In fact, he was the only one to be in the top-25 in all three categories.
Scooby has already earned Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year honors, and was named a finalist for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award. The Scooby awards tour heads to Houston next, then Orlando.
This is the second-straight season that a Matt Dudek recruit has won the Nagurski trophy. Last year, Pitt's Aaron Donald took home the hardware. Dudek was part of the recruiting team for the Panthers when Donald went there.
Also, if you were wondering what Scooby looks like in a suit.
