Arizona football: Wildcats make changes to depth chart before USC game

A few changes, especially on the defensive side of the ball

As injuries pile up for the Arizona Wildcats, and players begin to show what they’re made of in games, the coaching staff has made some adjustments to the depth chart.

Below is the new one for USC week.

On offense, left guard has been changed to Christian Boettcher OR Freddie Tagaloa. At running back, there are no surprises but it has been changed to have Tyrell Johnson there. Also of note, Tony Ellison is at one of the receiver spots instead of the injured Shawn Poindexter.

The majority of the changes come on the defensive side. At nose, Aiulua Fanene is now listed as the starter with Finton Connolly as his backup. Parker Zellers, who has been out for the past few games, is no longer on the depth chart after being the previous starter at nose.

Tackle now has Larry Tharpe Jr. listed as Sani Fuimaono’s backup, with Calvin Allen as the third-string guy. Tharpe was a late roster addition, and with measurments of 6-foot-5 and 275 pounds, he at least brings a little more size up front.

The MIKE linebacker position has Cody Ippolito and Jake Matthews, but Ippolito is now out for the season, and Matthews missed the Utah game with what was termed as a “bout of vertigo”, so we’ll see how that turns out. WILL is still Michael Barton OR Paul Magloire.

In the secondary, Jace Whittaker and DaVonte’ Neal are now listed as co-starters at corner, plus Isaiah Hayes and Jarvis McCall are co-starters at free safety.

The final change is on kick return. We’ve already seen the change in action, but Kwesi Mashack and Shun Brown are now the primary returners with Johnson moving to running back.
