Arizona football injury report: Scottie Young Jr. doubtful vs. Cal

DL Luca Bruno is probable, though

NCAA Football: UCLA at Arizona Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

The Arizona Wildcats are likely going to be without one of their top defensive players against the California Golden Bears in Berkeley on Saturday.

Freshman safety Scottie Young Jr. is listed as doubtful with a knee injury.

Here is Arizona’s injury report in its entirety:

Probable: DL Luca Bruno (concussion)

Questionable: None

Doubtful: DB Scottie Young Jr. (knee)

Out: DE/LB Jalen Harris (shoulder, out indefinitely)

Young has started in every game this season and is third on the team in tackles (32). He exited early against UCLA last weekend, and was replaced by senior defensive back Kwesi Mashack.

Mashack had an outstanding performance, being named to Pro Football Focus’ Pac-12 Defensive Team of the Week. He had three tackles (two for loss) and a pass breakup.

Some good news for Saturday is Arizona is likely getting defensive lineman Luca Bruno back. The senior missed last Saturday’s game vs. UCLA with a concussion.

His probable return is significant because defensive tackle Parker Zellers is suspended for the first half Saturday after being ejected for targeting in the second half vs. UCLA.

Bruno and Zellers have each made three starts this year.

Freshman DE/LB Jalen Harris (shoulder) has missed the last two games and will not suit up against Cal.

The former three-star recruit is out indefinitely, and we’ve heard he’s likely out for the season.

Harris has only played in four games this season, and he could pursue a redshirt like J.J. Taylor did after he broke his ankle against Washington in the fourth game of the season in 2016.

Saturday’s kickoff vs. Cal is set for 5 p.m. MST, and the game will be televised on the Pac-12 Networks.

Arizona (4-2, 2-1 Pac-12) has won two straight while Cal (4-3, 1-3) is coming off a 37-3 drubbing over then-No. 8 Washington State.

The Golden Bears will be without leading-tackler Devante Downs, who is out for the season due to a lower body injury.

The senior linebacker is second in the Pac-12 in tackles (65, 9.3 tpg).
