Rich Rodriguez sounded optimistic about DeAndre’ Miller’s progress in his recovery from offseason foot surgery, but the redshirt senior will have to wait a bit longer to make his season debut, as he is out for Friday game vs. the Utah Utes, according to the Arizona Wildcats’ injury report.
Here is the full report:
Probable: WR Donovan Walker (shoulder)
Questionable: DL Parker Zellers (ankle), TE Trevor Wood (ankle)
Out: DE/LB DeAndre’ Miller (foot), DB Isaiah Hayes (shoulder), WR Cam Denson (foot), TE Jamie Nunley (shoulder)
Rodriguez, anxious to get his top pass rusher back, said Monday that he hoped Miller could return to practice this week.
Also unavailable for Friday’s game is senior wide receiver Cam Denson, who has been nagged with a foot injury since the spring.
After missing the season-opener vs. NAU, Rodriguez said it was possible that Denson could redshirt this season, but then he caught a five-yard pass against Houston in Week 2, likely ending that idea.
Arizona continues to be thin at the tight end position as Jamie Nunley will miss Friday’s game with a shoulder injury, while Trevor Wood is set to miss his third straight game due to a bad ankle.
True freshman Bryce Wolma has manned the position admirably, leading Arizona in receptions (11), but the lack of depth there is concerning.
Defensive lineman Parker Zellers (ankle) is questionable vs. Utah after he missed last week’s game at UTEP. Luca Bruno started in his place.
Not listed on this week’s injury report is running back Nick Wilson and quarterback Khalil Tate, which is unsurprising since Rodriguez said Monday that both would be good to go.
Friday’s kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. MST and the game will be televised on FOX Sports 1.
