The Arizona Wildcats’ reported hire of Kevin Sumlin is already making waves in the recruiting world.
Dorian Gerald, the No. 1 defensive end in the junior college ranks, called the move a “great hire.”
Coach Sumlin to Arizona.. Great Hire #BearDown
— Dorian Gerald (@TopNotchDG) January 14, 2018
Gerald, from College of the Canyons in Valencia, Calif., was recruited by Sumlin at Texas A&M before he was fired by the Aggies.
The 6-foot-3, 260-pound Gerald has offers from powerhouse schools like Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, Florida State, and Oklahoma. 247Sports lists him as the No. 26 junior college player in the country.
Arizona is not even listed among the schools Gerald is interested in, but maybe that will change with Sumlin reportedly on board.
And even if Arizona cannot land Gerald, his comment about the hire is more proof what Sumlin-advocates have been saying throughout UA’s coaching search — the guy can recruit, and he can get Arizona’s foot in the door in places it normally would have no business being.
