Brandon’s thoughts: Ostendorp is a legit punter. His ranking from Chris Sailer is kind of surprising to me. He has improved his leg strength a lot over the offseason and it is notably different from last year. One thing I noticed, he is incredibly calm with pressure coming at him. That shows a lot of confidence in himself, which is important for specialists. With Ostendorp and walk-on Cameron Weinberg on board, I feel confident that the punter position will be in good hands.
Gabe’s Thoughts: The staff saw early that there was going to be a need for a punter and addressed it quickly. I thought it was a bit premature to take a scholarship punter that you could have probably asked to be a preferred walk-on. Strong leg, a lot of folks in the area say that he is one of the best punters in the state so it makes you wonder why he has continuously dropped in Chris Sailer’s rankings. But as Brandon mentions there is now another punter in the mix with preferred walk-on Cameron Weinberg which should bring some nice competition. You hope that Ostendorp can win that battle because then you’d have a scholarship punter not even being utilized.
