The Wildcats are seen likely destination for the 6-foot-6 quarterback. Well, at least according to recruiting experts across the country.
Gunnell is the No. 96 player in the 2019 class and the No. 3 pro-style quarterback, per 247Sports composite rankings.
The Houston-based product took an official visit to Arizona in April, and was once committed to UA head coach Kevin Sumlin and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone at Texas A&M.
As a junior at St. Pius X High School, Gunnell completed 71.2 percent of his passes for 4,936 yards, 61 touchdowns, and six interceptions.
He also ran for 390 yards and eight touchdowns.
Arizona currently has three 2019 commits, with the most recent one being two-star running back Michael Wiley.
Wiley and cornerback Logan Wilson hail from Texas, so landing Gunnell would be another recruiting win for Arizona in the Lone Star State. That is encouraging considering UA hardly recruited that area when Rich Rodriguez was at the helm.
