As one former Wildcat joins the Arizona Cardinals, another is leaving them.
The club announced Tuesday that former UA defensive tackle PJ Johnson has signed to their practice squad (which also features former UA defensive back Jace Whittaker).
Johnson played one season at Arizona, logging 31 tackles (8.5 for loss) and three sacks.
Hours after he signed with the Cardinals, former UA edge defender Reggie Gilbert was signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars off the Cardinals’ practice squad. He is expected to be promoted to the active roster in time for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.
Undrafted out of Arizona in 2016, Gilbert has also spent time with the Green Bay Packers and Tennessee Titans. He’s appeared in 29 career games (five starts), tallying 62 tackles, 4.5 sacks, 14 quarterback hits and six tackles for loss.
The 27-year-old has been sidelined with a knee injury this season.
A key member of Arizona’s Pac-12 South-winning team in 2014, Gilbert had 144 tackles (28 for loss) and 14 sacks in four seasons with the Wildcats.
