Shawn Poindexter’s NFL career might be getting closer to finally arriving.
The former Arizona Wildcats wide receiver has been added to the San Francisco 49ers’ practice squad, putting him on track to potentially make his pro debut later this season.
The 24-year-old Poindexter was signed by the 49ers as an undrafted free agent in 2019 but suffered a torn ACL during preseason camp, spending all of last season on San Francisco’s injured reserved list. He spent the most recent training camp with the 49ers but was cut just before the 2020 opener.
The 6-foot-5, 218-pound Poindexter played for the UA from 2016-18, catching 67 passes for 1,135 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a senior in 2018 he tied the school record for TD receptions in a season with 11 while also leading the Wildcats with 759 receiving yards.
