Coaching changes have recruiting impacts, and the Arizona Wildcats are starting to experience the consequence of firing Kevin Sumlin.
The first domino to fall came in the form of 3-star Louisiana running back Montrell Johnson, who on Sunday decommitted from Arizona’s 2021 class.
The 5-foot-10, 184-pound Johnson is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1,100 player in the 2021 class, as well as the 66th-best running back in the country and the No. 32 prospect from Louisiana.
Johnson was one of four Louisiana prospects Arizona had on board in the 2021 class at the beginning of December but he’s now the second from the Bayou State to back off his pledge after 3-star defensive end Ja’Marian Peterson did so on Dec. 4.
Arizona has had three players decommit from the 2021 class this month but still has 21 in the fold. Several are expected to sign their national letters of intent when the early signing period begins Wednesday, and a handful took to social media on Saturday to reaffirm their pledge to the UA despite Sumlin’s firing.
