The state of Louisiana had become a fertile recruiting territory for the Arizona Wildcats, with four players from the Bayou State committed in the 2021 class.
Now that number is one after a pair of Louisiana prospects decommitted from the UA on Sunday in the wake of Kevin Sumlin’s firing.
The latest is 3-star wide receiver Tyrese Johnson, who backed off his pledge via Twitter shortly after 3-star Louisiana running back Montrell Johnson decommitted.
The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Tyrese Johnson was ranked by 247Sports as the No. 524 player in the 2021 recruiting class, as well as the 82nd-best receiver and No. 16 player from Louisiana. He was Arizona’s second-highest 2021 commit, behind 3-star Washington quarterback Clay Millen.
A third Louisiana prospect, 3-star defensive end Ja’Marian Peterson, decommitted from Arizona on Dec. 4. All told, four 2021 commits have backed out this month.
Arizona’s recruiting class, once ranked fifth in the Pac-12, is now down to ninth in the league and 62nd nationally, per 247Sports. It currently has 19 players in it, with a handful expected to sign on Wednesday at the start of the early signing period.
