247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 1,322nd nationally, No. 69 tight end, No. 202 in Texas
Analysis: It seems Arizona has a habit of taking former high school quarterbacks and playing them as tight ends. Two former ‘Cats that come to mind are Josh Kern and Matt Morin. Powers can now be added to that list.
Powers also plays baseball for Klein Collins, so it makes sense that he plays QB for the Tigers as well. He does have an interesting throwing motion but it doesn’t seem to hinder his abilities.
He is a big kid but that doesn’t mean he isn’t mobile, as you can see when he takes off running. Powers is surprisingly athletic and quick for a player as big as him. He has been working on his route-running and pass catching abilities as well.
As of now, there will be no need to rush him onto the field with Bryce Wolma coming back and Stacey Marshall in the mix as well. This will give Powers plenty of time to develop.
