The package deal appears to have been a two-way street.
Michael Lev of the Arizona Daily Star is reporting that sophomore wide receiver Jalen ‘Boobie’ Curry plans to transfer from the Arizona Wildcats, though he has yet to enter his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
Curry’s impending departure comes on the heels of news that sophomore quarterback Grant Gunnell is also in the portal. Gunnell and Curry were teammates at St. Pius X High School in Texas, where Gunnell became the state’s all-time passing leader and Curry set a Texas single-game record with 26 receptions.
Curry committed to the UA in December 2018, six months after Gunnell did. In October Curry told reporters that Arizona “was a perfect fit for us. We wanted to do what’s best for us. We can make history and change the program around.”
While Gunnell had some success during his two seasons with Arizona, the same can’t be said for Curry. In 14 games, including eight starts, Curry had only 16 catches for 157 yards and no touchdowns.
Curry is the second receiver to leave Arizona since the 2020 season ended and coach Kevin Sumlin was fired, joining redshirt junior Stanley Berryhill III, who led the Wildcats in catches, receiving yards and receiving TDs but announced Monday he was entering the transfer portal.
