Even as the losses kept piling up on the field, Arizona had managed to stay in the win column on the recruiting trail. Until now.

Zeke Berry, a 3-star cornerback from California, has backed off his commitment to the Wildcats.

The 6-foot, 180-pound Berry was the UA’s third highest-ranked commit in the 2022 class, sitting at No. 382 in the country according to 247Sports. He’s also considered the No. 38 cornerback in the class and the No. 29 prospect from California.

Berry committed to Arizona on July 23, picking the Wildcats over offers from Cal, Oregon, Oregon State and Pittsburgh, among others. But since then has picked up an offer from Michigan and took an official visit to Oregon on Sept. 25, meaning he was on hand for the Wildcats’ 41-19 loss to the Ducks in Eugene.

This is the first decommitment for Arizona since Jedd Fisch was hired, but technically Berry is the third from the 2022 class. Early commits Kyion Graves, a 4-star wide receiver from Chandler, and 3-star Tucson quarterback Treyson Bourguet, both backed off their pledges shortly after Kevin Sumlin was fired in December.

Arizona, now sitting on 17 consecutive losses after Saturday’s 34-16 home setback to UCLA, still has 15 players committed for 2022, and a tweet sent out by Fisch on Thursday infers that the Wildcats have another pledge that hasn’t been made public by the recruit.
