While Jedd Fisch seems to be doing everything right from a public relations standpoint, the jury is still way out on his ability to be an effective coach at Arizona.
CBS Sports has released its annual ranking of power-conference college football coaches, and Fisch is way down near the bottom. Not rock bottom, but pretty close.
Fisch is ranked No. 64 out of 65 power coaches, ahead of only South Carolina’s Shane Beamer, who like Fisch is a first-time head coach.
Here’s what CBS’ Tom Fornelli had to say about Fisch:
“Fisch has never been the head coach at any previous stops, but he does have experience as an offensive coordinator at both the college and NFL levels. This gives him a bit of a bump against Beamer.”
The No. 64 rank reflects an 11-spot dip for Arizona, as Kevin Sumlin was ranked 53rd last June after being No. 40 in 2019.
The next lowest-ranked Pac-12 coach is Washington State’s Nick Rolovich, at No. 58, with Oregon State’s Jonathan Smith at No. 56 and Colorado’s Karl Dorrell at No. 54.
