BYU opens as double-digit favorite over Arizona

NCAA Football: Brigham Young at Arizona Casey Sapio-USA TODAY Sports

Arizona football’s season opener against BYU is a little more than seven weeks away, but oddsmakers are already putting out lines for the game.

Not surprisingly, the Wildcats are the underdogs.

DraftKings Sportsbook lists BYU as an 11-point favorite, and several other sportsbooks have released similar spreads. BetMGM and William Hill have BYU favored by 11 ½, while PointsBet has BYU favored by 12.

A points total has not been released by any sportsbook yet.

Arizona and BYU square off on ESPN on Saturday September 4 at 7:30 p.m. PST in Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas.

These odds are subject to change, of course, but they reflect the skepticism surrounding first-year head coach Jedd Fisch as he looks to improve on Arizona’s winless 2020 season and snap the program’s 12-game losing streak.

William Hill recently released Arizona’s win total at 2.5, the lowest in the Pac-12 and the second-lowest of any Power 5 program.

BYU went 11-1 in 2020 but is last in the country in returning production.
