Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch was planning to meet with the media Monday for his weekly press conference, but it has been postponed until Tuesday at noon.
Whatever the reason for the delay, it likely means UA fans will have to wait at least one more day to find out who will be the Wildcats’ starting quarterback for the Sept. 4 opener against BYU in Las Vegas.
It’s unlikely Fisch is wrestling with the decision. He said after Saturday’s scrimmage, which concluded fall camp, that he knows who the starter will be, but that he has a certain way he wants to go about making the announcement.
“I’ll talk to the three quarterbacks to let them know first, then the team, then the world,” Fisch said.
All signs point to Gunner Cruz being named the starter. The Washington State transfer worked with the first-string offense in Saturday’s scrimmage and made one of the best throws of the night, connecting with Boobie Curry for a 45-yard touchdown deep down the middle of the field. Unofficially, Cruz was 10 of 14 for 149 yards in his three series.
Second-year freshman Will Plummer and USF transfer Jordan McCloud are also in the mix to be the starter.
