Welcome back to another edition of AZDS’ Friday Night Lights series.

Let’s take a look at how Arizona’s commits performed in their latest games, many of which were dominant performances by Arizona and California powerhouses.

Noah Fifita, QB, Anaheim (CA) Servite

  • Last Game (Sept. 9): 58-7 victory over Bishop Amat
  • Game Stats: 18-for-27, 266 yds, 3 TD, 0 INT & 2 car, -4 yds, 0 TD
  • Season Stats (Updated): 50-for-79, 869 yds, 10 TD, 2 INT & 13 car, 124 yds, 1 TD
  • Notes: Fifita had another really nice game. His best play was a 41-yard bomb down the sideline to fellow Arizona commit Keyan Burnett. He placed the ball perfectly and made sure only Burnett could get it. He also continues to show how he can extend and create plays with his legs.

Keyan Burnett, TE, Anaheim (CA) Servite

  • Last Game (Sept. 9): 58-7 victory over Bishop Amat
  • Game Stats: 2 rec, 64 yds
  • Season Stats (Updated): 8 rec, 173 yds, 2 TD
  • Notes: Burnett continues to be a major deep threat for the Friars and Fifita. He had a really fantastic 41-yard catch down the sideline with a defensive back draped all over him. Very reminiscent of Tayvian Cunningham’s 54-yard catch with two defenders on him against San Diego State.

Jonah Coleman, RB, Stockton (CA) Lincoln

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 50-0 victory over Buhach Colony
  • Game Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Season Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Notes: Still unsure what Coleman’s stats are, but it doesn’t matter because man ... he is impressive. Coleman showed off his receiving skills with two touchdowns (one out of the slot and the other out of the backfield). He also showed that he is dangerous in the return game as he also had a punt return for a touchdown. I legit look forward to watching his highlights every week.

Tristan Monday, OLB/DE, Scottsdale Saguaro

  • Last Game (Sep 10): 20-14 victory over American Leadership Academy
  • Game Stats: 9 tackles, 4 TFL
  • Season Stats (Updated): 13 tackles, 8 TFL, 1 sack

Notes: Monday had another strong game. Four of his nine tackles were for a loss. One thing is clear: Monday is a nightmare for opposing offenses. He has a knack for creating negative plays and is poised for his biggest season. He had such a good game, that MaxPreps named him the Defensive Player of the Game.

Russell Davis II, EDGE, Chandler Hamilton

  • Last Game (Sep 10): 23-13 victory over Casteel
  • Game Stats: 5 tackles, 4 TFL, 2 sacks
  • Season Stats (Updated): 13 tackles, 6 TFL, 2 sacks

Notes: Davis continues to impress. He was a big problem for Casteel’s offensive line all night. He is so explosive and so quick off the ball at the snap, that he is past his man in the blink of an eye. He is consistently beating his blocker with his speed. He also uses his very long arms to shed blocks and make tackles. He is quickly moving up the board as one of the most impressive defensive commits of the class.

Tacario Davis, CB, Long Beach (CA) Millikan

  • Last Game (Sep 10): 27-26 loss to La Mirada
  • Game Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Season Stats (not updated): Unknown

Notes: I wasn’t able to find any stats but I was able to find some video of Davis. On offense, he had a nice grab for a first down along the sideline as he helped his QB, who threw the ball just over the out-stretched arm of a defender. To cap it off, he had a nice 23-yard catch and run for a touchdown. On defense, Davis had a really nice PBU on fourth down in the endzone to create the turnover on downs. You can see Davis in action in the below recap from the562.org.

Zeke Berry, ATH, Concord (CA) De La Salle

  • Last Game (Sep 10): 31-28 loss to Saint Francis
  • Game Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Season Stats (not updated): 2 tackles; 2 rec, 40 yds & 1 car, 7 yds

Notes: I was unable to find any stats for Berry but he has a ton of highlights from DLS’ first loss of the season. Flipping on the highlights and you see Berry all over the field. The highlights don’t actually highlight him the best but he is #29 in white. You see Berry play CB and S on defense. On offense, it’s either RB or WR. One multiple plays, you see just how big and fast he truly is as he runs down ball carriers to stop big plays or prevent touchdowns. By-and-large, his most impressive play was a 94-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Isaiah Johnson, DL, Chandler

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 17-7 victory over Cherry Creek
  • Game Stats: 6 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 fumble recovery
  • Season Stats (Updated): 10 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1 fumble recovery

Notes: Johnson had a nice game against Colorado-based Cherry Creek. He caused multiple negative plays for CC’s offense, to include a fumble recovery. That was one of five turnovers created by the Wolves’ defense.

Tyler Powell, TE, Phoenix Brophy College Prep

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 26-23 loss to Mountain Pointe
  • Game Stats: 1 rec, 10 yds
  • Season Stats (Updated): 6 rec, 73 yds
  • Notes: I haven’t been able to find any video of Powell from the loss to MP, but he did have a 10-yard catch.

Jonah Savaiinaea, OL, Honolulu (HI) St. Louis

  • Last Game (Aug. 20): 42-21 loss to Bishop Gorman
  • Season Stats: N/A

Notes: Savaiinaea and the Crusaders had another bye week this past weekend. They will be back in action on September 18 against Punahou.

Kyron Chambers, CB, Dallas (TX) South Oak Cliff

  • Last Game (Sep 10): Forfeit by SOC’s opponent Spruce
  • Game Stats: N/A
  • Season Stats (Updated): 4 tackles, 1 TFL

A.J. Jones, WR, Ontario (CA) Colony

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 13-6 loss to Claremont
  • Game Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Season Stats (not updated): Unknown

Grayson Stovall, OL, Chandler Hamilton

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 23-13 victory over Casteel
  • Game Stats: N/A
  • Season Stats: N/A

Jermaine Wiggins Jr., DL, Bridgton (ME) Academy

  • Last Game (Sept. 12): Unknown results against University of New Haven
  • Game Stats: Unknown
  • Season Stats: Unknown

Sterling Lane, OLB/DE, Westlake Village (CA) Oaks Christian

  • Last Game (Sept. 10): 56-21 loss to Bishop Alemany
  • Game Stats (not updated): Unknown
  • Season Stats (not updated): 27 tackles, 5 TFL, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble
