It’s here. The best time of the year. Football is back! And with that, high school football. It is now time for this season’s first edition of Friday Night Lights, chronicling how Arizona's Class of 2022 commits are doing at the prep level.

Noah Fifita, QB, Anaheim (Calif.) Servite

  • Last game: 44-7 victory over Mission Viejo
  • Game Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Game 1 stats (Aug 20): 19-for-27, 272 yds, 3 TD, 1 INT & 4 car, 55 yds
  • Season Stats: 5 rec, 61 yds, 1 TD (stats incomplete)
  • Notes: Fifita did have a wonderful 48-yard pass to hit fellow UA commit Keyan Burnett in-stride for a touchdown. He also had three other TD passes and a rushing score as well.

MISSION VIEJO RECAP:

In Servite’s first game, Fifita had a strong outing. He completed over 70% of his passes and had another three touchdowns through the air. He touchdown pass to Burnett was an impressive play all around. The more I see of Fifita the more I like, which is saying something because I liked him a lot before the season started.

EDISON RECAP:

Keyan Burnett, TE, Servite

  • Last game: 44-7 victory over Mission Viejo
  • Game Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Game 1 stats (Aug 20): 5 rec, 61 yds, 1 TD
  • Season Stats: 5 rec, 61 yds, 1 TD (stats incomplete)
  • Notes: Unsure as to why Burnett’s stats haven’t been updated for this past weekend’s game, but not to worry, He had a good game. His highlight came on a 48-yard touchdown bomb that was placed right on the money by Fifita. Burnett was lined up on the outside and just out-maneuvered and out-ran his defender. It was quite the route by the talented legacy. The previous week, Burnett had a solid game against Edison, including this 28-yd touchdown:

Burnett is off to a great start in his senior season and is really showing what he will bring to Tucson. Arizona fans should be excited for him.

GAME HIGHLIGHT:

Jonah Coleman, RB, Stockton (Calif.) Lincoln

  • Last game (Aug 21): 26-7 loss to Edison
  • Game Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Season Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Notes: Lincoln’s game on August 26 was cancelled due to poor air quality (smoke from nearby wildfires). For the Trojans’ first game, Coleman had himself a night. He busted a 55-yd touchdown run when it looked like Edison had him dead-to-rights in the backfield. He is well-built with a lower center of gravity, making him a difficult player to tackle. He has good speed, vision, and agility as well. He shows in multiple runs that his is a dynamic player and why he should be a 4-star.

EDISON HIGHLIGHTS:

A.J. Jones, WR, Ontario (Calif.) Colony

  • Last game: 28-7 loss to Santiago
  • Game Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Season Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Notes: Jones’ stats have yet to be updated but he did score Colony’s only touchdown of the night against Santiago. In the below video, you see Jones working on the outside and look inside as the ball is thrown outside. He does a great job of finding the ball, adjusting as he needs to, and make the catch for the score. A glimpse of what he brings to the table.

Jonah Savaiinaea, OL, Honolulu St. Louis School

  • Last game: 21-42 loss to Bishop Gorman Gaels
  • Game Stats: N/A
  • Season Stats: N/A
  • Notes: Savaiinaea had a few highlights from the Crusaders’ game against national powerhouse Bishop Gorman. He is a big kid, but I was extremely surprised to see how light on his feet he is. He has good footwork and has a quickness with how he moves. He is a mauler as well, aggressively pursuing contact with his opponent. I’m eager to see more from him this season.

BISHOP GORMAN HIGHLIGHTS:

Sterling Lane, OLB/DE, Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian

  • Last game: 20-9 loss to Sierra Canyon
  • Game Stats: 12 tackles, 3 TFL, 1 sack
  • Game 1 stats (Aug 20): 7 tackles, 1 TFL
  • Season Stats: 19 tackles, 4 TFL, 1 sack
  • Notes: Lane is a powerful force coming off the edge for the Lions. He is big, strong, and fast. He gets into the backfield quickly and with ease, as you can see in multiple instances in this highlights below. He really shows off his explosiveness in-game and really has a good amount of quickness. He beats his blockers in a relatively easy manner and shows a solid ability to shed blocks and pursue the ball carrier.

SIERRA CANYON HIGHLIGHTS:

In the Lions’ first game, he didn’t have as many tackles or negative plays, but he is still impressive. In the first play of his highlights you see him absolutely obliterate his blocker and immediately turn around and pursue the fleeing quarterback. I’ve watched that play around 10 times now.

CHAMINADE HIGHLIGHTS:

Tacario Davis, CB, Long Beach (Calif.) Millikan

  • Last game: 48-3 loss to Carlsbad
  • Game Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Game 1 stats (Aug 20): Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Season Stats: Unknown (stats not updated)
  • Notes: I haven’t really been able to find much, if any, film on Davis during the Rams’ two games. He does have one highlight from Millikan’s first game, with him play receiver.

SANTA ANA HIGHLIGHTS:

Zeke Berry, ATH, Concord (Calif.) De La Salle

  • Last game: 52-16 victory over St. Mary’s
  • Game Stats: 2 tackles; 2 rec, 40 yds & 1 car, 7 yds
  • Season Stats: 2 tackles; 2 rec, 40 yds & 1 car, 7 yds
  • Notes: Berry is a dynamic playmaker for the Spartans and can play all over the field. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much film of him in action this past weekend. What film there was shows Berry in at RB and bounce the ball to the outside for a nice 7-yard gain. He showcased nice speed and quickness to take the corner.

ST. MARY’S HIGHLIGHTS:
