The Arizona Wildcats leapfrogged a pair of teams to move into the top 15 of the College Football Playoff rankings announced Tuesday evening.

Arizona (8-3) jumped two spots to No. 15 in this week’s rankings after demolishing Utah at home 42-18 Saturday. The Wildcats passed Oregon State, which dropped five spots to No. 16 following a loss to Washington, and Iowa, which fell one spot to No. 17.

Georgia is No. 1, followed by Ohio State, Michigan and Washington. The Huskies’ win over Arizona in Tucson Sep. 30 is proving to be a resume-boosting victory.

Utah dropped out of the rankings after its loss, meaning Arizona now only has one win over a team ranked in the CFP top 25 in Oregon State.

Arizona’s No. 15 ranking is its highest in the CFP poll since 2014. The Wildcats reached as high as No. 7 in the rankings that year.

The Wildcats are still in contention for the Pac-12 title game. They need Oregon State to beat Oregon in Eugene Friday night and then to beat ASU Saturday. If that happens, Arizona would play Washington in the conference championship in Las Vegas Dec. 1.

If the Wildcats don’t make the Pac-12 title game, they still have an outside chance of playing in a New Year’s Six bowl, but they would likely need several teams ahead of them to lose.
