University of Arizona athletes competing in Rio Olympics

Here’s a list of the Wildcats competing in Rio, and when they will compete

The Rio Olympics get started on Friday with the Opening Ceremonies, and there will be 13 athletes and support staff that have ties to the University of Arizona.

Here’s a list of those that will be representing the Wildcats courtesy of ArizonaWildcats.com and Pac-12.com:

Cycling

  • Chloe Woodruff (Mountain bike - cross country, PLACED 14TH) - USA

Diving

  • Rafael Quintero (10m platform, PLACED 7TH) - Puerto Rico
  • Omar Ojeda (head coach) - Puerto Rico

Golf

  • Alejandra Llaneza (PLACED T-44) - Mexico

Swimming

  • Kevin Cordes (GOLD MEDAL 4x100m medley relay (prelim swimmer), 100m breaststroke, PLACED 4TH and 200m breaststroke, PLACED 8TH) - USA
  • Michael Meyer (400m IM, PLACED 17TH) - South Africa
  • Tjasa Oder (800m free, PLACED 13TH and 4x200m free relay, PLACED 15TH) - Slovenia
  • Brad Tandy (50m free, PLACED 6TH) - South Africa

Track and Field

  • Bernard Lagat (5,000 meter, PLACED 6TH) - USA
  • Sage Watson (400m hurdles, PLACED 4TH IN SEMIS and 4x400m relay, Fri. August 19th) - USA
  • Edgar Rivera (high jump, PLACED 35TH) - Mexico
