Rich Rod and his recruiting staff are able to spot talent miles away, even when that talent is from our neighbors to the north, Canada. British Columbia's top ranked prospect, OT Harper Sherman (6'5'' 260lbs.) committed on 8/1/14 to play his collegiate career at U of A. Sherman is the 2nd overall prospect in all of Canada, earning All-Star honors in both conference and provincial teams.
Harper is an extremely physical, hard-nosed run blocker. With his hand placement and leg drive, he's able to control defenders and finish through the block. While displaying great explosiveness off the snap, Harper is able to knock defenders off balance with his initial contact, bulldozing them to the turf. Showcasing precision head placement, Sherman is able to turn his butt to the hole, with ease, allowing ample running room for whoever the running back may be.
Pass protection seems to come to Harper easily; as his lengthy arms and quick feet are a huge benefit for him. Yet, at times, Harper can lose focus and shoot straight up from his stance, giving defenders a chance to get under his pad level. Once Harper adds mass to his slender frame, his talents will only shine brighter, as he already has the toughness and attitude to play at the collegiate level.
Sherman Harper is a 3-star prospect and 66th ranked OT by ESPN. Harper had numerous offers before officially committing to U of A, including: California, Nevada, Oregon St., San Diego St., UTEP, Washington St., and Wyoming.
