Arizona Football Recruiting: Trevor Speights decommits from Arizona

As one running back commits, another decommits.

Student Sports

It was announced late Sunday night that 3-star running back Trevor Speights has decommitted from Arizona. This comes just days after Arizona landed the verbal commitment of running back Russell Halimon.

Speights is a three-star running back out of Memorial (Mcallen, TX), ranked 43rd among all running backs in the nation. Texas A&M is rumored to be heavily interested in Speights and Tennessee is a school that sits on top of his list as well.

The decommitment from Speights could be beneficial for both parties. Arizona still has two running backs committed for 2016 and Speights could stay closer to home at Texas A&M and play for a more prestigious program.

As of now, Arizona has five commits for 2016, four of which come on the offensive side of the ball. Sean Riley is a shifty back that can move out of the backfield and get into open space. He's a prototypical running back for Rich Rodriguez and should be able to thrive in the system. Halimon is just a productive back. Nothing flashy, just a downhill runner with great speed and elusiveness. He's currently unranked by ESPN, Scout and 247 Sports, but that will definitely change come his senior year.
