Hamidou Diallo, the nation’s best shooting guard, has officially released his final list of schools. The Arizona Wildcats have made the cut.
The Putnam Science Academy post-graduate guard has Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Connecticut, Kentucky, and Syracuse in his final group. The 6-foot-6 guard hasn’t taken any official visits and won’t start planning them until after January 1, his coach Thomas Espinosa told me Tuesday afternoon.
“These six schools have been very involved with him from day one and really showed the most interest to this point and stayed with him,” stated Coach Espinosa. “He cut the list to these six and is seriously considering all six schools.”
At his best in the open floor, Diallo will be a huge asset to whatever school he attends.
When I spoke to Coach Espinosa in late September, he said, “(Diallo) really gets up and down. He’s special when the game is up and down and is such a tremendous athlete.”
Head Coach Sean Miller and assistant Book Richardson visited Diallo in September and both coach and player came away impressed.
“He’s really excited about Arizona and the possibility of going there,’ Espinosa added. “Me, personally, I was very impressed with Coach Miller and Coach Richardson and it’s exciting what will happen next.”
The allure of going to a program which has sent numerous players to the NBA is a strong draw for Diallo, which is reflected by his final list of schools. Each one of them is considered a great program with multiple NCAA Championships among them.
With the stress of narrowing his list out of the way, Diallo can now focus on academics, his team, and the holidays, knowing full well that it’s only going to get crazier as 2017 puts him on a path he’ll never forget.
