Five-star forward Simi Shittu has canceled his official visit to Arizona, reports Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com.
The visit was scheduled for Nov. 3.
While no reason was given for the cancelation, it’s fair to assume it’s at least somewhat linked to the recruiting scandal Arizona Wildcats assistant coach Book Richardson was arrested in.
It’s not clear if Shittu has completely dropped Arizona from consideration or if he just canceled his official visit.
In August, the 6-foot-8 forward had Arizona in his top 10 along with Arizona State, UConn, Kentucky, New Mexico, UNC, Notre Dame, Oregon, South Carolina and Vanderbilt.
Shittu is slated to officially visit Vanderbilt and North Carolina, but those are the only two official visits he has scheduled as of now, per Zagoria.
Shittu, a Canadian who attends Vermont Academy in Saxtons River, Vermont, is the No. 8 player in the 2018 class.
He isn’t the first player to drop Arizona in some fashion since an FBI investigation uncovered the bribery scheme last week.
No. 1 prospect R.J. Barrett eliminated Arizona from his top five, despite visiting the school on Sept. 21.
Still, Arizona’s 2018 class, ranked No. 1 in the country, remains intact. For now.
