Trevon Duval, the fifth-ranked player in 247 Sports Composite, and the nation’s top point guard, will visit the University of Arizona in “late February” he said after playing in New Jersey this weekend.
“I will be going to Arizona next in late February,” Duval said. “They need a point guard badly so they want me to come in and fill that role.”
Arizona hosts USC on February 23rd and UCLA on February 25th.
The six-foot-three guard, who attends IMG Academy in Florida, has narrowed his final list to Arizona, Kansas, Seton Hall, Duke, and Baylor. He transferred this summer from the school Terrance Ferguson attended in Texas, Prime Prep Academy, a move that eased concerns over his academic eligibility.
Duval has already visited Kansas, and will visit Duke this upcoming week for their showdown with UNC. The Seton Hall and Baylor visits have not been set yet.
While it would be nice for Duval to commit to the Arizona Wildcats, the current roster make-up would make it look unlikely considering they have Parker Jackson-Cartwright for another year and four-star Alex Barcello already signed. Additionally, you have Kobi Simmons who could still easily return next season (plus Rawle Alkins and Brandon Randolph who can/do play the guard positions as well).
I’ve also been told Duval favors the east coast and playing somewhat close to home, which is why one of his final five schools doesn’t look like it belongs. With that being said, Sean Miller and his staff work wonders when they get recruits on campus. When comparing the final five schools, only Baylor can rival Arizona’s weather appeal...not many schools can boast about pool parties in February.
This is a recruitment that will likely stretch into March and wouldn’t be surprised if it goes to National Signing Day in April.
