Arizona football recruiting SitRep: Wildcats gaining momentum in Texas

Arizona picked up another commitment from the Lone Star State last week

Arizona v Utah

The Arizona Wildcats have picked up some momentum on the recruiting trail lately, snagging another commit from Texas.

Things might heat up even more in the next few weeks, as the dead period comes to an end and the July quiet period begins.

With that, let’s get to in this week’s SitRep.

Jaiden Dockery

We’ll start with the new commitment.

Dockery, a Lancaster, Texas standout, plays multiple positions for his Tigers squad, but most likely will be in the defensive backfield for Arizona. He is another important pickup for the ‘Cats because he’s their second commitment from Texas. UA is trying to get into Texas in a big way this year and having two commits from the Lone Star State is a good step.

The most natural fit for Dockery at Arizona is the SPUR safety position. Nothing is mind-blowing about his game, but he has natural talent that should show at SPUR. He also has the size needed at the position, checking in at 6-foot-2 and 191 pounds.

Aaron Frost

The 6-foot-5, 300 pound two-way lineman is currently up to five offers, with Arizona being his first Pac-12 offer. Frost has taken a couple of visits so far and has a visit planned to Tucson on July 29. His interest in the ‘Cats stems from defensive coordinator Marcel Yates and freshman linebacker Josh Brown talking to him about the college and city.

Frost is a raw lineman, both offensively and defensively. He needs to work on his speed and technique on the defensive side of the ball. Once he gets his skills polished, he will be a solid player at the next level.

Recruiting Notes

Arizona made the list for some of its targets this week and we’ll take a look at them.

  • First up is Joseph Wilkins Jr., a 3-star receiver from North Fort Myers, Fla. He narrowed his list to 14 schools and Arizona joins Louisville, South Carolina, Maryland, Michigan State, and Iowa State, among others. There is some tough competition for the Wildcats and it won’t be an easy pull.
  • Second on the list is Trenton Charles, a 3-star running back from Scotlandville High School (Baton Rouge, La.), who released his top five on July 4. Arizona joins BYU, Army, SMU, and UTSA on Charles’ short list.
  • The last prospect to trim their list this past week was Joey Ramos, a 3-star offensive lineman from Deer Valley High School in Scottsdale. Arizona made the cut along with Oregon, Washington, Iowa State, Arizona State, and UCLA. There is some competition for the ‘Cats here, but right now they sit in a really good spot. Ramos has been on campus numerous times and Arizona has been recruiting Ramos for quite awhile now.
