If everything goes as planned, the Arizona Wildcats will have two high-profile visitors on campus in the first week of August.
That’s when Marvin Bagley III, 2018’s top recruit, and four-star point guard Devon Dotson will be taking their official visits.
Bagley chose that date earlier in July, while Dotson’s father told reporters in Las Vegas on Thursday that he will be heading to Arizona that same week.
Dotson, from Charlotte, North Carolina, is the No. 34 player in the 2018 class and No. 7 point guard, according to 247Sports.com.
Arizona already has a commitment from a 2018 point guard in Brandon Williams, but Sean Miller is clearly intending to add a second point guard to the class.
The Wildcats hosted five-star point guard Jahvon Quinerly for an official visit in late-June and have also been aggressively recruiting five-star combo guard Quentin Grimes.
“In our recruiting, we’ve made a change that I think the days of just pigeon-holing someone as a point guard .... and that’s all they can do, has ended,” Miller said Wednesday in Phoenix.
“I think we’re looking to put our best players on the court, but also having multiple ball handlers. So maybe you don’t have your traditional old-school, pass-first point guard, and we’re fortunate to have a senior, Parker Jackson-Cartwright, that is that for us, but moving forward I think we may not have that prototypical point guard, but I think we’ll have two, maybe even three guys that you can say play like a guard. So I think the cleverness, and the ability to pass at more than one position will make up for that.”
The 6-foot-2 Dotson recently joined South Carolina Supreme in the AAU circuit, teaming up with Zion Williamson, another highly-touted 2018 recruit the Wildcats are after.
Dotson listed a final eight of Arizona, Kansas, USC, Florida, Maryland, Wake Forest, Ohio State, and Miami (FL) back in June.
According to 247Sports, Dotson has not officially visited any schools yet, but Adam Zagoria reports he plans to take official visits to Kansas and Florida in addition to Arizona.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball projects Kansas as the favorite to land him.
