Arizona football recruiting SitRep: Wildcats add two commits, offers, and more

Arizona adds two more pieces to its class

Arizona v Utah

Even though the Arizona Wildcats are still in the midst of fall camp, it was a busy week for the coaching staff on the recruiting front.

UA added two new faces to the 2018 class and sent out additional offers to prospects.

Let’s get to it in this week’s SitRep.

Mykee Irving

The big defensive lineman from Calabasas High School (Calabasas, Calif.) gave the ‘Cats his pledge Thursday night, and he brings some much-needed size.

Irving is an interesting prospect. He has strength to go along with his size and can push people around on the line. He does play with a high pad level and sometimes just upright. These are traits that can be fixed and something that will need to be in order for him to effectively use his strength.

McKenzie Barnes

The second commit that the ‘Cats picked up is tall, lengthy cornerback McKenzie Barnes from Edison High School (Fresno, Calif). Barnes made it out to Tucson for a visit during the last weekend of July. He came away impressed and with a stronger relationship with the staff. The education and life skills meeting he went to stood out to most to him.

Barnes is a solid pickup. He has long arms that allows him to knock passes away and make plays on the ball. He does have decent speed that allows him to cover ground in short bursts.

Recruiting Notes

  • Vince Amey has done a good job this past week to close on some players that Arizona needs and can develop. Overall, the staff has done a good job so far with the class that it has put together. When all is said and done, I’d say I’d expect the ‘Cats to pull in another strong, athletic class.
