Arizona soccer’s regular season opener vs. Long Beach State was canceled Thursday due to unrelenting lightning in the area.
Kickoff in Tucson was originally scheduled for 6:30 p.m. MST, and the teams waited at Mulcahy Stadium until 9 p.m. before calling off the match.
The teams will try to reschedule the game at a later date, but it will not be taking place Friday since LBSU has to get back to Southern California to face UCLA on Sunday.
That means Arizona will open its season next Friday against Weber State at, wait for it, Sun Devil Soccer Stadium as part of the annual Sun Devil Desert Classic.
In better news, junior forward Jada Talley made TopDrawerSoccer’s Preseason Top 100, checking in as the No. 65 player in the country. The Corona, California native led Arizona with seven goals last season, three more than UA’s second leading scorers.
Here’s how the rest of the Pac-12 fared Thursday:
- Colorado 2-0 Drake
- Utah 0-2 Clemson
- Cal 5-0 Weber State
- USC 3-0 Hawaii
- ASU 4-1 Cal State Fullerton
- WSU 4-0 Seattle
- Oregon 2-2 Fresno State
