Will Marissa Schuld be Arizona softball’s ace of the future?

She certainly has the credentials.

The UA signee has been named Arizona’s Gatorade Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

The right-hander was 11-1 with a 0.74 ERA this year at Phoenix’s Pinnacle High School, leading the Pioneers to the 6A state title.

Schuld struck out 151 batters in just 76 innings. She also hit .574/.626/1.252 with 16 homers, 12 doubles, and 57 RBI, and posted a 3.85 GPA.

Schuld will join the Wildcats for the 2019 season.

“Marissa is a very accomplished pitcher that hits as well,” UA head coach Mike Candrea said on signing day (via Arizona Athletics).

“I love her competitiveness. I think she has a good chance of being really good because she’s very meticulous. She’s one of those kids that has a very strong passion of being highly successful. I think she’s going to work really hard and will continue to develop under Taryne (Mowatt). She spins the ball well and can do a lot of good things.”
