Malia Martinez homered twice and drove in six runs as Arizona softball run-ruled New Mexico State 8-0 in the first game of a Saturday doubleheader.

The senior hit a grand slam in the third inning and a two-run shot in the fifth to complete the run rule.

Sharlize Palacios kicked off the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning.

Reyna Carranco made her first start at second base since breaking her thumb in late February and went 1 for 2 with a walk and run. She batted second and Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza was moved down to the No. 6 spot to compensate. Carlie Scupin and Martinez were also pushed down a spot to seventh and eighth, respectively.

Mariah Lopez threw a four-hit shutout while walking two and striking out six.

Right fielder Peanut Martinez had a highlight play, gunning down a runner at third on a single to end the third inning.

Leadoff hitter Janelle Meoño extended her hitting streak to 15 games with a pair of singles. She also drew a walk and stole a base.

The Wildcats (24-5, 6-2) have won 10 straight and will wrap up the Bear Down Fiesta at 6 p.m. PT with an exhibition against Danielle O’Toole, Taylor McQuillin, Bridgette del Ponte, Sashel Palacios and Team Mexico.
