Arizona softball’s offensive returners may have been the big story coming into this year, but their pitching staff was not far behind. Alyssa Denham became the second Arizona pitcher to take home Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week honors this season, following Mariah Lopez’s honor last month.
Denham helped lead the Wildcats to a four-game sweep of the Stanford Cardinal last weekend by going 2-0, including throwing her third career no-hitter and 95th in Arizona program history. She followed up Thursday’s series-opening effort with a shutout to close the series on Saturday.
She allowed no earned runs in 12 innings while holding the Cardinal to a .098 batting average.
On Thursday, Denham dealt with just two base runners, both of whom reached on errors. On Saturday, she allowed four singles and one walk while striking out three.
In addition to Denham and Lopez, Arizona players have earned two Player of the Week awards—both by Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza—and a Freshman of the Week award by Carlie Scupin.
