Miranda Elish, one of the best players in college softball, has reportedly entered the transfer portal and Arizona is an obvious fit for multiple reasons.
Her younger sister Madi is a freshman pitcher at the UA, and adding Miranda, who has one year of eligibility left, would instantly make the Wildcats a national championship contender.
Before opting out of the 2021 season due to COVID concerns, Miranda was an All-American at both Oregon and Texas. She was named the 2020 Softball America Player of the Year after hitting .370 with four home runs while posting a 1.25 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 84 innings in the Longhorns’ abbreviated season.
Arizona could use an elite arm after losing Alyssa Denham and Mariah Lopez to graduation. Their top returning pitcher is rising senior Hanah Bowen, who had a 2.02 ERA in 102 innings in 2021.
UA could also use a big bat after losing star seniors Jessie Harper, Alyssa Palomino-Cardoza, Dejah Mulipola, Reyna Carranco and Malia Martinez.
The Wildcats have plenty of roster space too, only carrying 17 players at the moment.
According to Justin’s World of Softball, who first reported that Elish is in the transfer portal, Miranda carries a designation that does not allow miscellaneous schools to contact her, which suggests she might already have a destination in mind.
Stay tuned.
